AHEPA District 1 Response to the Tornados

Monday, May 02, 2011

We had a conference call last night to discuss how the District could mobilize aid for those in need resulting from the tornadoes last week. It was decided that we should respond in the following manner:

  • Monetary donations can be sent to the Birmingham chapter where they will be purchasing and delivering needed supplies to the affected areas. The address is: 3320 Old Columbiana Road, Hoover, AL 35244. The donation checks need to be made out to: AHEPA Chapter 3 Charitable Foundation. Donations are tax deductable. Please act ASAP on this as the need is now.
  • There has been a list of suggested goods that can be sent or delivered to our Brothers in Birmingham that will immediately be distributed to those in need.

They are:
Laundry Detergent
Dry Goods
Canned Foods
Diapers
Pet Food and Supplies
Cleaning Supplies
Paper Goods
Bottled Sodas

  • As I wrote previously our Supreme President will be in Birmingham on May 14th to attend our District Lodge Meeting. I urge everyone to attend to not only go through our District Lodge Business in preparation for the District Convention in June but to also assist the Birmingham brothers later that day with distributing the items mentioned above. This is a fantastic project for AHEPA District 1 where we can show leadership in the community by helping our fellow neighbors and friends. Be prepared to attend this. Have an emergency meeting in every chapter where you can decide how you can contribute- both monetarily with a donation to cause and also with your help on the ground that weekend.
  • Stay in touch with what is going on through the District website www.ahepadistrict1.org . We will be posting updates and photos of not only storm damage but also of our relief efforts.
  • If you would like to speak to someone in Birmingham to provide support or answer questions please contact PSP Ike Gulas at 205-879-1234 or ike@gulaslawfirm.com . Brother Ike and the Birmingham brothers are ready to take your donations and put them to good and immediate use as they have been cleared to go into the affected areas to provide assistance. Let’s use them!

I’ll be in touch soon.

Thanks for your help!

Ted N. Kipreos

District 1 Governor
